(2) ILP "Design" -Wattpad Presentation

On October 22, 2016, I spoke at the Florida Writer's Association's Annual Youth Conference. I presented on Wattpad, an online technology that can be used for education. I put together this PowerPoint presentation with the help of Wattpad, Tim Johnson, Debbie Goelz, and Leah Crichton. The presentation was given to middle schoolers and high schoolers but could be presented to adults.

            For a tenth grade history class, I would use data collection to gather up information on quiz grades to easily be able to see how my class is doing. I would also be able to keep track of attendance. Homework can also be done using Qualtrics and Google Forms. The answers could then easily be stored in Excel.

            I found seeing how each person takes away different aspects from a lesson most interesting. It goes to show how we all learn differently and have different learning and studying styles. It further drives in the point that we must take into consideration our students’ learning styles when we are teaching.

            I would like to learn how to use iTunes next. I have constantly been cheated by iTunes. I pay for songs and then a few months later it says I have not bought them or it recharges me for an album. I plan to prevent this from happening by emailing Apple and having us walk through the steps to solving it together. I will then record those steps so I can fix it next time Apple decides to scam me.

             The flipped classroom is an extreme model of the blended classroom. Rather than students coming to class and being lectured, they receive their lecture on the computer from the comfort of home. They then come to class where they may split up into groups and further explore the material in depth. The question everyone must wonder is, if computers and technology are forcing teachers to step to the side and answer questions when required, how much longer will teachers be needed until computers are able to do their job for them? This may seem like a something straight out of a science fiction novel and that it is just that, fiction, but with the start of develop on artificial intelligence and the constant state of fluidity of the economy, how much longer until teachers are out of the job?             The four R’s of open content are revise, reuse, remix, and redistribute. Some teachers will share the content they made so that other teachers can access them. This is open content. Open source software is not always free but for the most part is, and this software can be modified by users. According to OpenSource.com, this software “is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify, and enhance.”

            I learned how to create a non-linear PowerPoint during the Information Dissemination assignment. It was fun to be able to create a new set up for PowerPoint, and the possibilities for the games that can be created are many. I don’t like how the buttons look as they seem somewhat tacky, and it would be nice if Microsoft could create more options for the buttons. I really like the template I used as I feel like it went well with the theme. I’m hoping that I can use it in my future career to promote books in a fun way.
